Displacement ...A theme that keeps rearing its head telling me to question where HOME is. As a child I moved about a bit...mostly in the local area: a stones throw from the last house within another council estate which is Telford. But home is more than a house, a Town and a place.
It's the colour of the earth; the smell of cut grass; the hum of the lawn mowers in the summer; the sharp, crisp frost in the intake of breath waiting at the bus stop on the way to college... The familiarity of the colour of the bricks making up the houses. HOME is more than a word.
HOME is a heavily loaded conversation which I like to consider when creating art.
I created this piece with displacement in mind. Her hands pointing downwards towards the Earth we all grew from.
If we listen closely, observe the ground and feel the Earth underneath our feet, we can notice the subtle, deeper conversations being had...a kind of conversation which are no language, have no boundaries and are universal.
